    85年にカリフォルニアで結成されたハードコア・バンド。ブラック・フラッグのような、スピーディで暴力的なパンク・ナンバーを展開。時折、ブラック・サバス譲りのネガティヴなハードロックも披露してみせた。その後、作品を重ねるごとに曲が長くなり、ドラマティックでスケール感ある作風へ移行していく。ハードコア・スピリットをキープしたバンド・アンサンブルに、サンプラー／テープ／キーボードを導入。さらに、ヴァイオリン／フルート／トランペット……果てはバグ・パイプなどの生楽器も加えた、スピリチュアルでアンビエント、アヴァンギャルドでプログレッシヴな音世界はNeurosis唯一無二のものである。
