    Nat King Cole Trioナット・キング・コール・トリオ

    ナット・キング・コールといえば、シルクの肌触りのような声で「モナ・リサ」「ラヴ」「スターダスト」などを歌ったポピュラー・シンガーとして有名だが、熱心なジャズ・ファンの間ではトリオ時代の人気が高いのも事実……。
    このトリオはビッグ・バンド全盛の40年代にあって、ピアノ／ギター／ベースというスモール・コンボ編成で、ジャイヴ感覚溢れる小粋な演奏を展開し人気を集めた。特にピアニストとしてのコールは、シングル・トーンを多用するスタイルで新人類ぶりを発揮、後のモダン・ジャズに大きな影響を与えることになる。そして名手として知られるオスカー・ムーアのスウィンギーなギター・プレイも相まって、２人のスピーディなコンビネーションを軸に、新たなジャズの地平を切り拓いていった。
    コールをただの甘口シンガーと思ったら大間違い。ナメてかかると火傷するようなホットな演奏だ。
