    Napalm Deathナパーム・デス

    ナパーム・デスは、ヘビメタから派生したグラインド・コアの創始者とも言うべきバンドだ。彼らが初期のアルバムでみせた、人間の身体的限界に挑戦するかのような超速ナンバーは凄まじいの一言。そのスピードの上をいくにはデジタル技術を駆使するしかないだろう。ギター・サウンドはまるで耳の皮膚を好む肉食性の昆虫の大群のようにリスナーに襲い掛かり、ドラムは機関銃を連射するかのようだ。ヴォーカルにいたっては、長い間水も飲めず砂漠を歩いたスター・ウォーズのヨーダの声か、はたまたドラッグの存在しない地獄におけるドラッグ中毒者の苦しみの金切り声にも聴こえる。ナパーム・デスはその後、過剰な暴走状態からは少し後退したものの、今でも怒りに満ちあふれたサウンドを放射。彼らの爆音は、聴覚的虐待というアートの完成に向けて精進し続けているのだ。
