    Mighty Sam McClainマイティ・サム・マックレイン

    アラバマ州マッスル・ソウルズ・スタジオで産声を上げた素朴で泥臭いソウル・サウンドの伝道者。ソウルの全盛期である60年代から今日に至るまで、マイティ・サム・マックレインは自身のレコーディング作品を通し、伝統に根差した生気みなぎる正統派サザン・ソウル・ミュージックの継承に力を尽くしている。青春時代にゴスペル・リサイタルで鍛錬した歌声を生かし、ソウル・ミュージックの黄金時代だった60年代中期には数少ないシングルをレコーディングしている（そのうち1枚はパッツィ・クラインズ版「スウィート・ドリームス」。その他全ての曲が現在では傑作とみなされている）。そして71年に最後のシングルを発売してから、再びレコーディングを開始するまで15年の歳月が過ぎ去ってしまった。90年代に入ってからは、人気を博し大ヒットを生んだR&B界の先駆者たちの名曲を歌った一連の作品をリリースしている。
