Martin Atkinsマーティン・アトキンス
PIL脱退後は90年に自らのグループ、ピッグフェイスを結成。インダストリアル的なアプローチの作品を送り出す。そのかたわらキリング・ジョーク、ナイン・インチ・ネイルズといったバンドでプレイしながら、92年にはキリング・ジョークのメンバーであるジョーディー、ポール・レイヴン、ポール・ファーガスンの３人とマダー・インクを結成。これはアルバム１枚で解散するが、その後はピッグフェイスと、自らの設立した＜インヴィジブル・レコード＞の運営、さらに散発的にさまざまなプロジェクトに参加するなど、オルタナティヴ／インダストリアルのフィールドで八面六臂の活躍ぶりを示している。98年には、元PILの同僚だったジャー・ウーブル、元キリング・ジョークのジョーディー、さらに元リヴォルティング・コックスのクリス・コネリーらとダメイジ・マニュアルを結成、00年にアルバムを１枚発表している。
マーティン・アトキンスの功績は、職人ミュージシャンとしての実績もさることながら、＜インヴィジブル・レコード＞の設立・運営にもある。ピッグフェイスやマーダー・インクのほか、テスト・デパートメント、サイキックTV、スワンズ、スコーン、PIG、フィータス、コントーションズ／ジェイムズ・チャンスなど、ノイズ〜インダストリアル、ニュー・ウェイヴ／オルタナティヴを中心に先鋭的かつ前衛的なアーティストに発表の場を提供し、シーンの底上げに貢献した実績は大きい。 （小野島 大）
