    Manマン

    結成は68年。76年に解散するまで、地道ながら精力的な活動を続けた。シンプルにしてアーシーなアメリカ南部的ルーツ・ロックを信条としつつ、あたかも伝承するかのようにヨーロッパ各地へマメなツアーを何度にも渡って展開。レコーディング作品も数多く、最終的に10枚以上のアルバムを発表し、後のパブ・ロック・ムーヴメントの土台を築いた。
    スタートの経緯がイギリスの片田舎、ウェールズの腕利きミュージシャンを集合させたスーパー（？）グループという事情もあり、幾多のメンバー・チェンジを経ながら、そのほとんどがウェールズ人という点も、どこかいなたいサウンドの遠因なのかもしれない。
    後にワイルド・ターキーに加入するミッキー・ジョーンズ、ニック・ロウやデイヴ・エドモンズとロックパイルを結成し、その後ダイアー・ストレイツに加わるテリー・ウィリアムスなど、優秀なミュージシャンを多数輩出している。（小池清彦）
