    ロニー・ブルーックスは50年代末に活動を開始して以来、一貫してショウマン的なスタイルを取りながら、下卑た感じのブルーズ・ギターを弾きつづけてきた。骨にまで響いてくる感じの痩せて砂のような手触りのギターでブルックスは、聴く者の心に強く訴えかけてくる。ブルースのさまざまなスタイルを自由に取り込んできた彼のギターは、ロング・ジョン・ハンターやB.B.キングからの影響を感じさせるものだが、それだけではなく、アルバート・キングのちょっと卑わいに歌うようなサウンドも模倣している。ヴォーカリストとしての彼は、よく伸びるヴィブラートとやはりB.B.キングにも通じる甘さを備えた揺れるような声が特徴で、とくにストーリー性の強い歌でその魅力を発揮するようだ。ブルックスは、まずクリフトン・シェニエのバックでザイデコやスワンプ・ブルースを演奏し、のちにサム・クックやココ・テイラー、ヒューバート・サムリン、ジミー・リードといった偉大なブルーズマンたちのレコーディングに参加したという経歴を持っている。ソウルからファンク、シカゴ・ブルーズ、スワンプ・ブルーズまでなんでも自由にこなす姿勢は彼の音楽にモダンな輝きを与え、それは「In the Dark」や「Voodoo Daddy」といった名曲によく現れている。
