    変声期前の高音域に恵まれた青少年男子の声質“ボーイ・ソプラノ”を最大限にフィーチャーしたグループ、リベラ。南ロンドンを拠点として活動していたセント・フィリップス少年合唱団を前身し、自身も合唱団の卒業生であるロバート・プライズマンによって、従来の合唱団の枠に縛られない、さらなるコンテンポラリーなグループを目指して活動が開始された。
    当初は「セント・フィリップス少年合唱団」名義での活動だったが、アルバム『リベラ』（99年）がヒットしたのをきっかけに、グループ名をリベラと改称（ちなみに「リベラ（Libera）」とはラテン語で「自由」という意味）。「リベラのコンセプトは“ancient”（古代）と“modern”（現代）の双方にある」というプライズマンの言葉が示す通り、古き良き伝統的なクラシック・スタイルのみならず、現代的なポップ・テイストを巧みに取り入れた全く新しいサウンドを表現している。
    リベラの人気を決定づける事になったのは、06年NHKドラマ『氷壁』主題歌に起用された「彼方の光」。この後、「彼方の光」が収録されたアルバム『彼方の光〜Welcome to Libera's world〜』『Angel Voices』『Angel Voices　来日記念盤』をリリース。
    さらに、08年映画『誰も守ってくれない』主題歌「あなたがいるから」が大ヒット。同曲が収録されたアルバム『祈り〜あなたがいるから』がクラシックチャートで６週連続１位を獲得という快挙を達成した。
