    Jungle Wonzジャングル・ワンズ

    元郵便局員にしてハウス・ミュージックの頂点を極めた超人、マーシャル・ジェファーソン。彼が残した多大な功績の筆頭として挙げられる名義が、ジャングル・ワンズだ。「Move Your Body」（86年）と並び称される傑作「Time Marches On」（87年）は、この名義から誕生。豊潤な泣きの旋律と繊細なヴォーカルの浮遊感。文字通りの大自然に思いを馳せたサウンド・スケープからは、壮大な世界観が窺える。まさに、彼の驚異的才能が奇跡的に結実された珠玉の逸品。ニューヨークの伝説的クラブ＜Paradise Garage＞においても頻繁にプレイされたことはあまりにも有名だ。「ハウスはここに始まり、ここに終わる」「ハウスの聖歌」「これを超えるハウスに出会ったことがない」など、発表されて10年以上経ったにも拘らず、未だに多数の賛辞が聞かれる。
    “Virgo”“Hercules”“Sleezy D”といった名義でも、リズムやアシッド・ベースの実験によって生まれた傑作が多数。天才とは、こういう人のことを言うのでしょう。涙と震えが止まりません。
