    女性ポップ・ブームにまだ火が点いていなかった90年に、ジル・ソビュールのファースト・アルバムは発表されたが、MCMレーベルにあっさり契約を断たれてしまう。しかし、90年代中期に差しかかった頃、トーリ・エイモスやジュエル、そしてアラニス・モリセットがチャートを賑し始め、彼女にも再びチャンスが到来。ソビュールはすかさず制作活動を開始し、「I Kissed A Girl」や「Super Model」といったロマンティックな楽曲をヒットさせたのだ。また、多くの女性アーティストと異なり、私的で悲観的な自己思案の中に、程よいユーモアを織り交ぜる才能をもちあわせている。そのバランス感覚こそがソビュール最大の持ち味といえるだろう。
