    70年代半ばから、クロスオーヴァー／フュージョンといったジャンルに先駆けて洗練されたジャズ・ロックを実現させていた、いわば「早過ぎた」ロック・バンド。中心人物であるギタリストのゲイリー・ボイル以外はメンバー入れ替えがかなり激しく、いわばセッション・バンド的なフリーな活動を最初から標榜していたようである。そういったあたりもジャズ的発想といえるかもしれない。
    一部のメンバーはツトム・ヤマシタのイースト・ウインドと掛け持ちしており、元ソフト・マシーンのヒュー・ホッパーが在籍していたこともあった。解散後は、ボイルはソロ・アルバムをコンスタントにリリース。アイソトープ時代のボイルを「イギリスで最も過小評価されているギタリスト」と評したプレスもあったほど"進み過ぎた"存在だった。　（小池清彦）
