    Husker Duハスカー・ドゥ

    オルタナティヴ・シーンに強い影響を与えた最重要バンドとして、この先も語り継がれるであろうハスカー・ドゥ。79年にミネアポリスで結成され、バンド名はスウェーデンのボード・ゲームから拝借している。81年、アルバム『ランド・スピード・レコード』でデビュー。ここで披露されているのは、ロサンゼルス以外の北米パンク／ハードコアを吸収し、ダムドやディスチャージに象徴されるUKテイストをミックスした、ごった煮サウンドである。初期の彼らはこういったカラーが濃く、とにかく「速い・やかましい・短い」の強行突破ぶりを見せつけていた。その後、激しい演奏にとことん美しいメロディと非反逆的な歌詞を乗せるという「脱・ハードコア」スタイルにシフト・チェンジ。ソリッドな刃物と化した楽曲の数々は、爆発と沈降を繰り返しながら、オーディエンスの支持を増やしていったのだ。だが、バンドの中心人物であったボヴ・モウルド（vo&g）が、「勢いで燃え尽きてしまったバンド」と自ら語っている通り、87年のアルバム『ウェアハウス：ソングス・アンド・ストーリーズ』を最後に（86年にメジャーに移籍したばかりだった）、時代を猪突猛進した彼らは活動にピリオドを打った。その後、ボヴ・モウルドはソロを通過してシュガーを結成、グラント・ハート（vo&dr）もソロを経てノヴァ・モヴで活動している。
