    流麗だが、パワフルでエモーショナルな歌声を持つソウル・シンガー、そしてアレンジャー／プロデューサー／ソング・ライター、ジェラルド・リヴァート。オージェイズのメンバー＝エディ・リヴァートを父に持つ男である。
    かつては友人マーク・ゴードンとその兄弟ショーンとリヴァートというトリオを組んでいたジェラルド。そのキャリアの初期において、多くのアーティストに対するソング・ライター業も行なっていた（名曲「カサノヴァ」もこの時期に）。そんな彼がソロ・シンガーとしてデビューしたのが、アルバム『プライヴェート・ライン』（91年）において。例のごとく、同作はR＆Bヒット・チャートを席巻。その後も父親とのデュエット・ナンバー「ベイビー・ホールド・オン・トゥ・ミー」などを発表。さらにジョニー・ギル、キース・スウェットとのユニット＝LSGとしてもヒット・ソングを放ち、話題を振り撒いた。
    しかし、06年11月10日、薬物の複数服用によりオハイオ州クリーヴランドの自宅にて死去。享年40歳の若さであった。
