    Eric von Schmidtエリック・フォン・シュミット

    ボストン・フォーク・シーンの顔であり、デイヴ・ヴァン・ロンクと並び称されるホワイト・ブルースマンである。特にボブ・ディランへの影響は大きく、彼がエリック作の「Baby, Let Me Follow You Down」をカヴァーしたり、ジャケット写真にエリックのアルバムを置いたりしたことは有名だ。
    レッドベリーに影響されて歌うようになったエリックは、50年代後半からボストンを根城にフォーク・シンガーとして活躍。レコード・デビューは61年のロルフ・カーンとのデュエット・アルバムだったが、完全ソロ名義では64年の「Eric Sings Von Schmidt」が最初。大きなセールスを記録することはなかったが、後のシンガー・ソングライター・ブームを予感させるような内省的な作風が、静かなる衝撃をシーンにもたらした。その後もコンスタントとはいかないが、ポツリポツリと良作を発表していき、70年代にはウッドストックでハングリー・チャック〜ベター・デイズ人脈が大挙参加した『2nd Right, 3rd Row』といったルーツ・ロック的なアルバムを残している。
    また、音楽以外にイラストレーターとしても活動しており、ジェフ＆マリアのアルバム・ジャケットなどは彼の作品。
