    音楽誌NMEのコラムニストだったCath Carrollは80年代初期にレーベルファクトリー・レコーズ所属のバンド、Miaowの一員としてデビューしたが、86年リリースのNME誌のコンピレーション・アルバム『C-86』にPastelsやウェディング・プレゼント、プライマル・スクリームといったアーティストと共にフィーチャーされたっきりの状態が91年リリースのソロ・アルバム『イングランド・メイド・ミー』をリリースするまで続いていた。93年にインディーズの人気グループアンレストがCath Carrollの肖像画を彼らのアルバムのジャケットに使用、さらにそのアルバムに「Cath Carroll」というシングルを入れたことから彼女は再び脚光を集めるようになった。その後Cath CarrollはUnrestのリーダーのマーク・ロビンソンのティーンビートレーベルからシングルとフル・アルバムの『Truth Crime Motel』をリリースした。聞く者をうっとりさせる、くすぶるようなヴォーカルをフィーチャーしたこのアルバムはボサノヴァのリズムや、まばらなインストゥルメンタルの光るソウルフルなエッジを持った作品となっている。
