    Carl Carltonカール・カールトン

    もともとはソングライター／セッション・ギタリスト出身。しかしながら裏方でいることに飽き足らず、70年代初頭にソロ・アーティストとしてのキャリアをスタートさせた。そして、現在ではフリー・ソウル界隈で人気の「Everlasting Love」（74年）がヒット。しかしレコード会社との契約トラブルに巻き込まれ、しばらくの間停滞を余儀なくされる。再びスポットが当てられるのは80年代に入ってから。ちょうどこの頃は、バンド演奏型のファンクが定着し、それに伴いリック・ジェイムスのような演奏志向のソロ・アーティストが増殖していた時期である。そんな機運にのって、ソリッドなファンク・チューン「She's a Bad Mama Jama」がチャートを急上昇、シーンに返り咲いたのであった。その後はファンクとスウィート・バラードを両輪にしたいくつかのアルバムを発表。——90年代中頃までの活動は確認できるものの、現在の動向は不明である。
