偉大なるシティ・ブルースの先駆者、リロイ・カーのフォロワーとして有名……、などと書くと無個性なブルース・ピアニストと思われてしまうが、スライド・ギタリストとしても卓越した演奏を聴かせ、またカーとは違って垢抜けない歌唱が魅力。31年に録音を開始し、60年代まで息の長い活動を続けた。68年に死亡。
