    Buddy Tateバディ・テイト

    少しブルドッグ似のだらしない表情（笑）で豪快テナーをブロウするのがバディ・テイト。イリノイ・ジャケーやアーネット・コブらと並び称されるテキサス・テナーの代表選手であり、チョット音程低くて（それがジャズっぽかったりするんだな）、太く逞しいトーンの持ち主だ。
    30年代初頭にアメリカ南西部を中心に活動を始め、39年から８年間カウント・ベイシーのバンドに在籍。そこでの活躍によってジャズ界に名をとどろかせた。以降、コールマン・ホーキンス／ハーシャル・エヴァンス／ジミー・フォレストなどテナーの中のテナー（男の中の男）と共演。酒をかっくらい、「ガハハ」と高笑いする様が目に浮かぶようだ。テナー・ファンなら必聴アーティスト!!
