    ジャズ・ギターの伝統をしっかりと守り続けるベテラン・ギタリスト、バッキー・ピザレリ。７弦ギターを使用していることでも有名。ギターに関しては独学ながらも、そのセンスの良さでめきめきと頭角を現し、ビッグ・バンドはもちろん、小さめのジャズ・コンボや歌の伴奏など実に幅広い守備範囲で人気を博した。50年代にはTV局のハウス・バンドのメンバーとして活躍する他、ベニー・グッドマンなどのバンドでもサイドマンとして活躍。70年代に入るとジャズ・セッションでの活動が活発になり、ステファン・グラッペリやズート・シムズらと共演を重ねた。——いたってストレート・アヘッドな、正統的な演奏を聴かせるギタリストで、決して派手ではないものの、堅実なテクニックと抜群のスウィング感で、どんな演奏環境にあっても存在感を発揮する、実力派である。
    息子のジョン・ピザレリも人気の高いシンガー／ギタリストであり、２人のデュオ・アルバムでは実に息のあったプレイを聴かせている。　（近藤 陽）
