    Brand Nubianブランド・ヌビアン

    サダト・X／グランド・プーバ／ロード・ジャマー／DJアラモによるブランド・ヌビアンは、知的で中毒性のあるヒップホップを、ニューヨークから10年以上に渡って叩きつけてきた。
    90年にリリースされたデビュー・アルバム『オール・フォー・ワン』は、尊敬、自己への信頼、そして５％ネイションの思想を組み入れたユニークなライム・スタイルにより、ラップ・クラシックとして広く認知された。さらに、ディープかつダンサブルな楽曲のほとんどをセルフ・プロデュースし、タイトル・トラックと「スロー・ダウン」の２曲でヒットを飛ばす。その後プーバとアラモがグループを脱退、DJシンセアを加えて93年に『イン・ゴッド・ウィー・トラスト』を発表。この作品ではダイアモンドＤともコラボレイトしている。新生ブランド・ヌビアンも順風満帆で、「パンクス・ジャンプ・アップ・トゥー・ゲット・ビート・ダウン」「ラヴ・ミー・オア・リーヴ・ミー・アローン」という２つのシングルをヒットさせた。１年後に発表した３rdアルバムはそれほどの商業的成功は収められなかったものの、傑作「ホールド・オン」を収録している。
    そして98年、なんと彼らはオリジナル・メンバーで華々しく帰還。プロダクションには、DJプレミアやロード・フィネスが貢献し、息の長い彼らのスキルを実証するタイトなアルバムに仕上がった。染みついたファンク精神と共に、未だリスナーを魅了し続けている。
