    Bobby Charlesボビー・チャールズ

    ボビー・チャールズは50年代において、R＆Bの作曲でかなりの稼ぎ手だった。彼の聴き手を魅了する気取りのないニューオリンズ・サウンドは、ブギウギやファッツ・ドミノらの音楽において見事に表現されている。「ジェラウス・カインド」や「アイ・キャント・クイット・ユー」などが大ヒットとなったが、彼自身の歌声も曲にマッチしていてかなり美味だ。さらにウィットに富んだ作詞家としてもランディ・ニューマンやロビー・ロバートソンらに多大な影響を与えているし、72年に自身名義で発表した処女作『ボビー・チャールズ』も最高の出来である。R＆Bにローカルな風味を加えたのがボビー・チャールズの最大かつ偉大な手柄／功績だとはいえ、それがなくても彼はすでに「３分ポップの達人」として名を上げていたのである。
