    Billy Taylorビリー・テイラー

    21年ノース・キャロライナ州、グリーンヴィル生まれ。50年代からバードランドの専属ピアニストとして活躍し、ラジオとテレビでレギュラーの座を獲得する。ジャズへの飽くなき探究心を抱えながら、65年には子供たちの教育用に、ハーレム・ベースド・コンサート・グループを結成した。また、69年にテレビ番組『デヴィット・フロスト・ショウ』で、黒人としては初めての音楽監督に抜擢されている。彼はクラシックを頻繁に取り入れたスタイルで、演奏／作曲をしているが、93年の『Suite For Jazz Piano And Orchestra』では、自らのトリオとジュリアード・ストリング・カルテットとの共演を果たし、ジャズとクラシックの融合を非常に高いレヴェルに押し上げた。そして、近年のジャズ・クラシックの中で最も有名な1曲、「I Wish」を生み出しているが、残念ながらジャズ・ファン以外には、テイラー本人はあまり知られていない。
