    エルヴィス・プレスリーやカール・パーキンスと並ぶ＜サン＞レーベルの大物ロカビリアン。ダミ声のワイルドな唱法を武器に、サックスとピアノを前面に押し出したR&B寄りのロカビリーで人気を博した。代表曲である「Flying Saucer Rock 'n' Roll」「Red Hot」といったナンバーは、ネオ・ロカ勢にも愛好され、ロバート・ゴードンなどがカヴァーしたのは余りにも有名。
    またブラック・ミュージック好きが高じてか、ブルースやR&Bのアーティスト＆ハーピストとして、変名で多くの録音を残している。
