    Atomic Roosterアトミック・ルースター

    キーボーディスト、ビンセント・クレインを中心に69年結成。70年代中盤に解散するまで本国では多くのヒットを放ったが、クレイン以外のメンバー・チェンジが激しく、グループのイメージは定着しなかった。オリジナル・メンバーには、カール・パーマー（後にEL＆P→エイジア）も在籍していたが、この頃はオルガンをメインにクレインが豪快に暴れまくっていた時代。キーボードがメインという特質から、もっぱらプログレの範疇で語られることの多かった彼らだが、後にギタリストを加えるとまごうことなきハード・ロック攻勢に出る。
    ピーター・フレンチ、クリス・ファーロウ等々、優秀な人材は多数在籍していたのだが、やはりリーダー格・クレインの独裁的にして気紛れな性格から、次々とメンバーが脱落していったことがなんとも悔やまれる（もっとも、当時はこういった"気分屋"こそがカッコイイとされていた時代でもあったのだが）。「デヴルズ・アンサー」「スタンド・バイ・ミー」など、ヒット・ソングも決して少なくはなかったのだが、その後は自然消滅してしまった。　（小池清彦）
