    Third Worldサード・ワールド

    ルーツ・レゲエとソウルを融合させたレゲエ・バンド、それがサード・ワールドだ。60年代に活動をスタートした当初は、メンバー構成の面などで不安定な時期が続き、一時インナー・サークルでプレイしたこともあった。デビュー作『Third World』は、メロウで丁寧に作り込まれたアルバムで、＜アイランド・レコード＞との契約と、75年のボブ・マーリィ・ロンドン・ライヴでのサポートという地位をもたらした。
    また、「96 Degrees In The Shade」の中の、オージェイズ／Gamble And Huffのカヴァー「Now That We've Found Love」が世界的に大ヒット。続く「The Journey To Addis」は、それまで以上にルーツとスウィート・ソウル・ミュージックのミックスが突出した作品となった。さらに、79年の「Cool Meditation」、81年の「Dancing On The Floor」、82年の「Try Jah Love」のヒットで、その名を世間に広め、80年代後半には、スティーヴィー・ワンダーやジャマルスキーらが参加したアルバムにより、その名声はアメリカにもとどろいた。
    99年には、DJバウンティ・キラーをフィーチャーしたアルバム『Reggae Party』をリリースし、若手とのコラボレーションにも取り組んでいる。
