    93年のシングル「リンガー」の大ヒットは、クランベリーズの一点のキズもないほとんど完璧なサウンドをみれば当然のことだろう。ドロレス・オリオーダンのピンと張った刺すような声が泣いて、震えながら高みに昇る、そして音の最後が小さな悲しい叫びに変わる…一度聴いただけでまわりにいる者はくぎづけになるのだ。このバンドのきらめくような、フォークっぽいギターをメインにしたサウンドと、スタジオでの音作りのよさ。このふたつが揃えばもう人気もチャートも独占は当然のこと。「リンガー」に続く「ゾンビ」も「オード・トゥ・マイ・ファミリー」も、アメリカとイギリスの両方でチャートを駆け上がり、そしてプラチナ・アルバム・セールスをいくつも出す。３枚目のアルバム『トゥ・ザ・フェイスフル・ディパーテッド』をリリースするころには、大西洋をはさんでアメリカでもヨーロッパでも、彼らの名前は隅々にまで浸透していた。
