    デビューは70年。ロック・レヴォリューションの風潮に乗っ取り、キーボードを中心にサックス奏者を加えた編成で、まずはシンフォニックなブリティッシュ・プログレッシヴ・ロック・バンドとしてスタート。その後、激しいメンバー・チェンジとサウンド・カラーの変遷で、いまひとつイメージの決定しないバンドではあったが、70年代中盤まではプログレ路線を徐々にエスカレートさせていく形で順調に活動を続ける。
    しかし80年代に入り、古典的なブリティッシュ・ロックが煮詰まりを見せ始めると、突如アメリカ風味のポップなプログレにシフト・チェンジ。その名も『ブレックファスト・イン・アメリカ』というコマーシャル・アルバムでアメリカのみならず、ワ−ルド・ワイドな成功を収める。その路線で80年代の末期まで活動した。　（小池清彦）
