    80年代から活発な活動を続けているメルツバウ（秋田昌美）は、不協和音の嵐を奏でる、日本でもっとも有名なノイズ・アクトだ。ルー・リードの斬新な作品『メタル・マシーン・ミュージック』や、イギリスのアグレッシヴなグループ、ホワイトハウスをまんまと超越した彼は、非常に複雑なサウンドをまるで暴風雨のように我々へ放つのである。そして、自由奔放なスタイルからはフリー・ジャズなどの影響も感じられるが、そこに込められた激しい暴力性やサディズム／マゾヒズム思想は、リスナーの本能そのものに激しく訴えかけてくるようだ。
    メルツバウは積極的に——あるいはディフェンスを強固にとりながら聴くべき音楽といえるのではないだろうか。
