    デビー・ギブソンは16歳で、作詞／作曲／アレンジ／プロデュースのすべてをこなした『アウト・オブ・ザ・ブルー』（87年）でデビューを果たす。このアルバムから「オンリー・イン・マイ・ドリームス」がヒット。80年代の（アイドル）ポップ・ロック・シンガー・ブームの火つけ役として、ティファニーと共にシーンに台頭していく。
    彼女が確固たる地位を築いたのは『エレクトリック・ユース』（89年）によってである。ハイトーンで伸びやかに歌い上げるヴォーカル。シンセサイザーとエレクトリック・ビートを前面に押し出した、軽快でダンサブルなサウンド。それらが一体となったポップ・チューンの数々は爽快に響いた。また、叙情的なメロディが胸を打つバラード・ナンバーも彼女の持ち味のひとつと言える。——結果として、このアルバムは600万枚以上のビッグ・セールスを記録。シングル・カット曲「ロスト・イン・ユア・アイズ」は全米No.１に輝き、ライバル視されていたティファニーに大きく差をつけるに至った。
    その後も『エニシング・イズ・ポッシブル』（90年）、『ボディ・マインド・ソウル』（93年）と、きらびやかなソングライティングで作品を重ねると共に、ミュージカルやTVドラマなどで女優としても活躍している。
