    最初はパンクの影響を受け音楽活動を始めたが、見かけだけの姿勢に呆れ返り、ウディ・ガスリやフィル・オークスのサウンドに刺激を求めたビリー・ブラッグ。彼は、オークスの跡を受継ぐ形で、タイトで熱烈なメロディを奏で、知的な社会批判を並べた。この２つの要因をバランスよく行なうブラッグだが、時には過激な政治的発言により本国のイギリスで賛否両論を巻き起こしているが、アメリカでの知名度は低い。また、ウィルコとのコラボレーションもアメリカ側では受け入れられなかったが、ブラッグはそれでも叙情的な詞に政治的な思想を織り交ぜながら、歌を作りつづけている。時にはバンドと共演する事もあるが、ほとんどの場合はギター１本でプレイ。彼のパフォーマンスやレコーディングにより、フォークの社会的かつ政治的な発言の場が保持されている。
